New Damate poultry units in Penza region will provide 5% of Russian turkey production

Damate Group has completed the construction of the first of two poultry breeding units within the framework of a project for 64 poultry houses (2 million turkeys), which is being implemented in the Bolshaya Elan settlement, the Penza region. The construction and commissioning of poultry units is taking place in stages. The first stage of the facility has been put into operation. In early November, a batch of poultry was delivered to the site of the first stage.

The launch of the two poultry units will allow the company to increase turkey production by a total of 22.6 thousand tons per year, which is about 5 percent of the total turkey production in Russia*.

The opening ceremony of the new facility was attended by Oleg Melnichenko, Governor of the Penza Region, Roman Kalentyev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture of Penza Region, Yuri Osokin, Director of the Penza Regional branch of Rosselkhozbank JSC, Naum Babayev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Damate, Andrey Sedov, CEO of Damate, and other distinguished guests.

The investments amount is 6.9 billion rubles; the financial partner is Rosselkhozbank JSC.

Thanks to the construction of new poultry buildings, Damate will provide 103 local residents with additional jobs, of which 43 have already been employed.

We are planning continue to follow these agreements by supporting Damate projects in our region," Oleg Melnichenko emphasized. — This is a powerful driver of the agricultural sector of the Penza region. These include poultry farming complexes, meat processing plants, planted acreage, and grain elevators, as well as expanding export supplies, creating new jobs, building housing for employees, and increasing the tax base. Together with Damate Group, the Penza Region fulfills the tasks set by the President of the country," said Oleg Melnichenko, Governor of the Penza Region.

"We keep developing the turkey production project in the Penza region to increase production volumes. The new sites that we have built will further strengthen the position of the company and the region as a leader in turkey production. I would like to note that all the work on the launch of the facilities was carried out on time, thanks to the active assistance of the regional government," noted Naum Babayev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Damate.

A large amount of construction work has been carried out as part of the project. One block consists of three poultry breeding grounds, on which there are 32 poultry houses for rearing and fattening. All Damate poultry houses are built in accordance with biological and sanitary requirements. The buildings are located at a distance from each other in order to comply with biosafety standards. Specialized technological equipment has been installed in the poultry houses. All life support processes are automated.

In addition to the poultry buildings, modern infrastructure has been created at the sites and communications have been carried out: a water intake unit, a weighing room, feed storage houses, sanitary dispensers, and a specialized manure storage facility have been built. Gas and electrical installation works have been carried out at the sites.

In early November, a batch of poultry was delivered to the sites of the first stage. Before placing the young animals, the necessary regulatory measures were carried out to prepare the buildings. Now the bird is at the stage of rearing and fattening. The first commercial shipments of poultry will be sent to the Damate processing plant in February 2025.

The construction and commissioning of poultry units is taking place in stages. The construction of the second block of 32 poultry houses is now under way: the installation of foundations and metal structures has been completed, wall and roof sandwich panels are being installed, and technological equipment is being supplied. The volume of construction readiness is 34%. The second stage of the poultry units is scheduled to be completed by August 2025.

 

*For reference: according to the National Turkey Producers Association (NAPI) the volume of production of finished turkey products in 2023 in Russia amounted to 422 thousand tons in slaughter weight; the production forecast of the NAPI industry for 2024 is 440 thousand tons. The forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation for 2024 is at the level of 435 thousand tons per year.
